Some of my "favorite" experiences from the year?

1) Going to Hermann, Missouri, in February, just Dustin and I, for a few nights. We stayed in a beautiful cottage (pictured right) along the Missouri River with our own private hot tub on the deck! We're hoping to go back sometime this winter.
 

2) Sandbagging on top of a slick muddy levee with the Missouri River  in front of me, an 8-foot drop into a soppy corn field behind me, 20 prison inmates on one side, and 20 prison inmates on the other. What a day! I blogged about it here, if you want to read more, with pictures.

3) Trying to rid our crawl space and yard of a family of skunks that decided to take up residence. That was a summer-long saga, but my favorite story from that experience is here.


4) Taking the whole family on vacation to Branson in August. This is our annual tradition, except for last August when Kristin was born.

5) Dissecting a cow eyeball. Although it was a fascinating experience, and the kids absolutely LOVED it, I really would have preferred someone else actually TOUCH the eyeball.

6) Celebrating my birthday in December by spending the whole day doing 39 random acts of kindness. The kids and I gave away helium balloons in the mall, taped quarters to vending machines (photo, right,) paid for people behind us in the drive-thru at several restaurants, delivered cupcakes to a local business, gave away flowers in the grocery story, and more! I was humbled when many friends also did an act of kindness in my honor. It was literally the most-fun birthday I've ever had! If you're looking for something new to do on your birthday, give it a try! I'd highly recommend it!
